- I would like to put my 2 cents in about this C64 CDROM and pirated
- software in general.
-
- Yes, the C64 CDROM contains software which alot of people call Pirated
- copies. Is it legal? Is it illegal? Should we call the authorities on
- the producers? This topic can definately cause alot of emotion in
- people who for years have taken a hard stance on the matter that
- Copying Software and distributing it to others is illegal, which it
- is!
-
- But come on people, lighten up! The software on this CD has been
- around for years and the only people interested in it are those that
- never had the bucks to go out and buy the original when it came out
- years ago. You'll never make a dime more or less if this CD had or had
- not come out.
-
- So go ahead with your threats of legal action against the producers.
- Your hard ass stance against 'illegal' copies. Yes, you have THE LAW
- behind you to support your claim, but, before you make another threat,
- another word against the C64 CDROM, consider that you yourself are
- taking part in the complete death of the C64.
-
- Here is an opportunity to spark a new interest in the C64. A new
- opportunity! People interested in playing all those old games might
- even pull that C64 out of the closet to transfer the filef rom their
- PC to the C64. Maybe they might even pick a C64 up at a yard sale or
- paper. Better yet, they may get back into C64'ring and make a few
- purchases from one of the fine companies out there that still produces
- C64 products.
-
- No, we don't want to copy software that is presently being developed
- and sold. We do want good hardware and better software and we are
- willing to pay for it. But, if you think we are going to pay hard
- earned cash for software that is out of production, out of mind and
- out of sight you are nuts.
-
- I might be asking for a flame, but I would even go as far as to say
- that the people out there protecting the rights of out of date out of
- production software are actually hurting the status of the Commodore
- 64 by discouraging new interest in the machine. Who are you going to
- sell products to if you drive everyone away.
-
- NOW I do believe there should be a understanding and comprimise here
- on both sides for the good of the Commodore 64/128.
-
- Then again, I am not motivated by money, only in the interest in
- seeing a great machine continue to grab the interest of people who use
- it.
